Oxford Handbooks Online for 2017

The ebooks@cambridge service is pleased to announce the purchase of the 2017 Oxford Handbooks Online collections in twelve subject areas across Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. This purchase adds to the considerable backfile of Handbooks already available to the Cambridge community via the Oxford Handbooks Online platform, and has been funded by the UL’s English Collections budget and the Squire Law Library.

The twelve subjects covered are: Archaeology, Classical Studies, Economics & Finance, History, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Religion. As content within the 2017 collections is published, it will become immediately available to Cambridge users on the Oxford Handbooks Online platform. Oxford Handbooks Online can be accessed here on and off campus via Raven. MARC records for ebooks in the 2017 collections will be added to iDiscover in the near future (ebooks in previous years’ collections are already searchable through iDiscover) with regular updates for new titles added during the year.

Bloomsbury Professional Online

The ebooks@cambridge service is pleased to announce that members of the University now have access to a twelve-month subscription to Bloomsbury Professional Online, funded by the Squire Law Library.

We are the first university to subscribe to this service, which is aimed at a professional audience. Bloomsbury Professional publish high quality books and digital products for lawyers, tax practitioners, accountants and business professionals. The Bloomsbury Professional Online platform should not be confused with Bloomsbury Collections, a separate academic service about which we posted recently.

The platform gives access to well over a hundred practitioner ebooks in aspects of the law including family law, banking and finance law, charities, criminal negligence, company and commercial law, employment law, environmental law, insolvency law, local government law, maritime law, mediation, partnerships, pensions, professional negligence, property and land law, sport law and UK law. A full list of titles can be browsed on the left-hand sidebar of the platform; meanwhile, here is a selection (as usual, click on the covers for authenticated access):

Access to Bloomsbury Professional Online

Bloomsbury Professional Online can be accessed on and off campus with Raven. Content can be viewed online within your browser, and excerpts can be exported to Word and kept indefinitely.

We hope to be able to load MARC records for individual titles soon to make these discoverable through iDiscover, but in the meantime please access the platform directly and browse the title list on the left-hand sidebar.

New ebook collections now available from Bloomsbury

The number of ebooks available to members of the University via Bloomsbury Collections has recently increased significantly with the purchase of several new collections.

The following collections have been purchased on the recommendation of the Connell Fund librarians, using part of the Connell Fund ebooks allocation for 2016-17:

  • Anthropology 2017 – 11 titles
  • History 2016 – 74 titles
  • Philosophy 2015 – 54 titles
  • Theology 2015 – 21 titles

All of these new collections are now switched on and can be accessed on and off campus via Bloomsbury Collections. MARC records have been loaded for most individual titles (some records pending for History and Philosophy) and are searchable now in iDiscover. Records for titles within Anthropology 2017 and Hart and Beck 2017 will be loaded as they become available.

Rosenne’s Law and Practice of the International Court: 1920-2015

ebooks@cambridge and the Law Library are pleased to announce that the ebook version of the fifth edition of Rosenne’s Law and Practice of the International Court: 1920-2015 is now available via BrillOnline Reference Works.

The popularity of his monumental and definitive works established Shabtai Rosenne as the undisputed expert on the International Court of Justice’s law and practice of his time. Irrefutably the leading work on the court, previous editions of Rosenne’s Law and Practice of the International Court have influenced generations of legal scholars, practitioners, judges, and students alike.

The Fifth Edition, edited by Malcolm Shaw QC who is Senior Fellow at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law,  brings this monumental resource up-to-date and is described by Brill as ‘an essential component of all international law libraries and an indispensable work for those practicing in the field, who will all appreciate access to the most recent work on the Court‘.
