Collections update: Springer Biomedical and Life Sciences EBA 2025-26

Completing the Springer EBA trilogy, we are also pleased to announce that the Springer Biomedical and Life Sciences EBA has been renewed for another year. As with both the Springer Mathematics and Statistics EBA, and Springer Engineering EBA, this rolling subscription model provides access to the last four years of publications (2022-2025). The Biomedical and Lifesciences EBA makes available over 2,900 DRM-free ebooks and conference proceedings, covering subjects such as: agriculture, plant sciences, biotechnology, and food science.

A link filtering for subscribed material can be accessed via the ebooks@cambridge libguide, under ‘Find ebooks’. Records to titles can also be found on iDiscover, with new texts added as they are published. As an Evidence-Based Acquisition (EBA) scheme, the full annual subscription fee will be used by Cambridge STEMM librarians to purchase perpetual access to the most popular titles. Titles from the previous yearly subscription, covering the years 2021-2024, have recently been selected and are now available in perpetuity.

This rolling subscription model covers the last four years of publication (2022-2025), presenting the latest research for Engineering students. This subscription provides access to over 6,000 DRM-free ebooks and conference proceedings, with topics covering areas such as mechanical engineering, building construction and design, and computational intelligence.

A link to subscribed material can be found on the ebooks@cambridge libguide, under ‘Find ebooks’. Records will also continue to be added to iDiscover as titles are published. As this is an Evidence-Based Acquisition (EBA) scheme, the full annual subscription fee will be used by Cambridge STEMM librarians to purchase perpetual access to the most popular titles. Collections update: CABI Digital Library 2025 ebook collection

Building on previous purchases of both the 2020-2022 and the 2023-2024 collections, we are pleased to announce that thanks to Cambridge University STEMM Libraries the CABI digital library 2025 ebook collection has been purchased in perpetuity. Approximately 80 new titles will be included in this collection, and records will continue to be added to iDiscover as titles are published throughout this year. Available titles can also be searched on the CABI Digital Library.

The new ebooks cover a range of subjects, including agriculture, animal welfare, veterinary and animal sciences, biotechnology, and plant sciences. The collection will be useful for those studying Biological Sciences and particularly Plant Sciences, as well as having wider applicability to the Humanities and Social Sciences. All titles are unlimited access and DRM free.

New resource: CABI Cases

We are also pleased to announce that a new resource has been purchased by Cambridge University STEMM Libraries from CABI, called CABI Cases. This is a new product offered by CABI, and access has been purchased for specific year collections across three Cases: ‘CABI Cases: Animal Behaviour and Welfare’ (2022-24); ‘CABI Cases: Animal Science’ (2024); and ‘CABI Cases: Plant Health’ (2023-24). The Cases are composed of case studies covering subjects such as forestry and food, agriculture, veterinary and animal sciences, human health, and much more. In total, we have access to over 110 case studies across the three purchased collections.

As CABI notes, the Cases present “practical, educational case studies” which “support study, research and practice… They are written by leading international practitioners and academics and peer-reviewed to ensure quality.” The case studies will again be of particular interest to disciplines within Biological Sciences and Plant Sciences, and the Humanities and Social Sciences. The collections of Cases noted above have been purchased in perpetuity, and they can be accessed both through iDiscover and the ebooks@cambridge libguide.

Collections update: IEEE Princeton University Press 2025 Collection

We are pleased to announce that thanks to Cambridge University STEMM Libraries, the Princeton University Press 2025 Collection hosted on the IEEE Xplore Platform has been purchased in perpetuity. This adds to the previously acquired annual collections, and our coverage now spans Princeton University Press publications from 1945-2025.

Titles in the 2025 collection cover a range of subjects from across the sciences, including quantum computing, evolution, seismology, climate change, and artificial intelligence. All titles are DRM free and have unlimited user access. Records will continue to be added to iDiscover as titles in the collection are published throughout this year, whilst titles that are already available can be browsed either via the IEEE Xplore Platform (where 2025 titles can be found easiest by filtering for ‘newest’), or by individual title searches on iDiscover.

Please note that due to scheduled server maintenance to improve security and performance, the Maruzen eBook Library will be experiencing system downtime between 8th-10th August, and then temporary feature restrictions from 10th to 17th August.

The system downtime is between 16:00 BST on 8th August and 04:00 BST on 10th August. During this period the platform will be unavailable.

The feature restrictions period begins 04:00 BST on 10th August, and ends 15:59 BST on 17th August. The following features will be unavailable during this time: remote access user registration; content download; and request registration. There may also be a brief service interruption on 17th August.

Collections update: O’Reilly for Higher Education and O’Reilly Audiobooks

Renewal of O’Reilly

We are pleased to announce that Cambridge University Libraries has renewed it’s subscription to O’Reilly for Higher Education, which includes O’Reilly Audiobooks. With a strong focus on technology and business, this subscription provides access to more than 50,000 ebooks, 3,000 audiobooks, 4,000 courses, and 30,000 hours of videos. Topics covered include: Artificial intelligence, software engineering, cybersecurity, leadership, management, and more.

As well as technology and business, O’Reilly also features titles related to art, photography, and wellbeing. The O’Reilly collection has twice yearly title additions and withdrawals, and so the titles available may change. Records will continue to be added to iDiscover for recently published and new titles, whilst available titles can also be browsed via O’Reilly for Higher Education ebooks and O’Reilly audiobooks.

For further information on how to use the O’Reilly platform, please see this helpful LibGuide, produced by ProQuest, which provides pointers and presentations on aspects such as how to: search O’Reilly, create playlists, and use the online eReader. The LibGuide also has information about the O’Reilly App, which can be downloaded from the AppStore and Google Play. The App allows you to download ebooks, audiobooks and videos to use on the go.

New ebook collection: American Phytopathological Society ebooks backlist

We are pleased to announce that Cambridge University Libraries now has perpetual access to the backlist ebooks collection of the American Phytopathological Society (APS), which includes titles published by APS Press up to and including 2024.

APS is the leading publisher in plant pathology, and the 86 titles included in this collection cover topics relating to bacteriology, epidemiology, mycology, and agriculture. The collection also features a series of compendiums covering diseases and pests for various fruits, vegetables, grains and plants. The collection includes key reading list titles that will be useful to support teaching and learning in the Plant Sciences and will also be of interest more widely across the Natural Sciences.

All of the ebooks are available to read and download as pdfs, and some are also available as epubs. For the latter please click on the Open in eReader link displayed under the e-isbn, an example of which is shown below:

Collections update: Wiley AI 2024 and Now AI 2025

We are very pleased to announce that Cambridge University Libraries now has access to two ebook collections, Wiley AI 2024 and Now AI 2025, both hosted on IEEE Xplore. These collections, which together feature over 90 recently published titles, cover a range of topics in relation to artificial intelligence, such as healthcare, agriculture, augmented reality, and coding. New titles will also be added to the Now AI 2025 collection as they are published throughout the rest of this year.

Records for the titles which are already published are available to search on iDiscover. The Wiley collection is browsable on IEEE’s platform, whilst the Now collection is searchable on IEEE by using the advanced search function and filtering the publisher to ‘Now’ and the year to ‘2025’ – the titles we have access to will be indicated by an unlocked green padlock.

Collections update: ACLS Humanities Ebooks Renewal 2025

The ebooks@cambridge team are pleased to announce that we’ve renewed our subscription with ACLS Humanities Ebooks (ACLS HEB) for 2025. This year, over 190 diverse new titles have been added to ACLS HEB’s collection, contributing to their stated mission of providing access to scholarship ‘featuring marginalised voices and overlooked subject areas’. Records for all the new titles are available on iDiscover, and can be browsed on the open-source Fulcrum platform.

The ACLS HEB scholar-curated collection specialises in the inclusion of foundational backlist titles which are otherwise out-of-print or inaccessible in ebook format. Titles focus on subjects across the humanities and social sciences, and are chosen to be the most useful in their respective fields. There are over 6,300 unlimited-user access titles included in the collection, and approximately 180 new titles are added each year.
